Project for impoverished Indian women
In 2016 Dublin Lions Club applied for and received a grant from #LCIF (Lions Clubs International Foundation) of $50000. Dublin Lions Club’s along with other lions clubs and #Nandri_org (an Irish charity) raised $17,000 in matching funds. The money has now been totally distributed via microfinance loans to over 210 widows in rural Southern India. Most of these widows purchased a cow with the loan they received and as soon as the money is repaid each month it is immediately reloaned to another mother. This is a life changing experience for the families involved. They sell the milk, cow dung and male calves. Female calves on reaching motherhood can be sold to finance children’s education or keep for further income.
